Center for the Development of Frontier Technology in Social Welfare
About Center for the Development of Frontier Technology in Social Welfare
The Social Work Research Institute of Japan College of Social Work has established Center for the Development of Frontier Technology in Social Welfare in 2012. We believe it is the institute's duty to lead the research in this field by keep looking for topics that need to be addressed, delved into, and examined with frontier technology in order to build appropriate theories. For example, topics such program evaluation, development of evaluation tools, training of specialists who can support families receiving public assistance, supervising various aspects of social welfare and social workers, supporting facilities and their employees, and responding to the needs of various children, the elderly, and the disabled, must all be faced with the development of frontier technology in mind. Moreover, in the field of care welfare, it is crucial to evaluate the basic concepts and to standardize frontier technology urgently.
Given the above situation, we have set up within the Social Work Research Institute, Center for the Development of Frontier Technology in Social Welfare as the base to evaluate and develop frontier technology in social welfare.
Center for the Development of Frontier Technology in Social Welfare is divided into three basic units (Care Welfare Development Unit, Welfare Facilitation Development Unit, and Welfare Program Evaluation Unit). The Care Welfare Unit has an important role to lead the study in the field of care welfare. It endeavors to establish care welfare as a systematized field of study, through its effort to promote specialty of care welfare, and by developing and supporting the skills and techniques necessary. The Welfare Facilitation Development Unit studies methods to train and supervise specialists in the field of social welfare. Another purpose of this unit is to structure a new field of study concerned with support for care providers. The Welfare Program Evaluation Unit is founded on the college's achievement on program evaluation that has accumulated over the years, and it focuses on the enforcement and diffusion of evidence-based program evaluation, the development and establishment of evaluation approaches, and the development and evaluation of effective program models.
